For those of you interested Only in TRAVEL, I (Jack) wrote the blog between MARCH 2010 and October 2010 during our travels west. We saw the most beautiful places and had the best time in our big truck and little trailer. See Blog Archive below.

Yes, I Got to Go Again!!!I

Susie didn't have to go into work until 11 a.m., today, so she stopped by just to take me on a short walk down the street. I always have fun on walks with her, but I really, really like the nature center.

But, guess what???? Nancy took me this afternoon! Now, I know you're going to get bored because Nancy goes nuts with the camera. I almost lucked out--she had the same problem that Ms. Sherry had--the zoom wouldn't open, but Nancy fiddled and managed to get it to work, but it's on its last legs. That's a shame because she takes good care of it and it isn't that old.

Trust me, these are only a few of the pictures she took. She says she wants to show everyone what a handsome boy I am even though I'm going to be 13 in a couple of months.  There is one that I want to tell you about. After Rich went away, Nancy put a bench in the nature center. It had a plaque on it that had Rich's name in the middle and Lizzie's name to the right (that's where she always walked) and my name to the left (that's where I walked). Before Nancy hurt her back she put a couple of coats of varnish on it to try to preserve it.

As you know, she hasn't been able to get up to the nature center for quite a while, but Susie and others told her that the bench was starting to fall apart. Some nice person replaced the bad wood and though we can't read the sign any more, the bench looks good as new and is sturdy. Nancy sat on it for a while, today, and I sat next to her and we just enjoyed the cool breeze. We don't know who this person is that fixed our bench, but Nancy and I wish we could thank them.

Nancy yelled at me because I was eating dirt. I don't know what's in it but it tastes so good. She said she'd brain me if I wound up throwing up in the house.

This is on the way to the "swamp" part of the nature center. They work hard to make it really nice.

This is me by Rich's bench.

Look how handsome I am. (Um, Nancy made me say that)

I really, really wanted to go in that water. Nancy says she doesn't like me to go in because a lot of it is run off from the streets.

But, can't I go in the water just a little, Nancy?

This is something new and cool. School children come here and nice people teach them about nature. Isn't that nice? There's a whole half circle of them. See, even the trees that fell this winter have a use.

Oooh...something smells good.

Time to go home, I know.

  1. Oh Jack you are such a handsome boy, Nancy is right and I am SO glad that she was able to take you to the nature center her very own self so you could both spend some time at Rich's bench.

    1. Thank you, Ms.Sherry. It's so good to be able to go out and walk, again, with Nancy. Yes, it was as though the weather was perfect just for us as we sat on the bench.

  2. Jack, you really need to listen to Nancy. You are a handsome lad even though you couldn't seem to get your nose out of the dirt. That is wonderful that someone was able to take care of Rich's bench for you. There are good people in this world. And Nancy felt good enough to go with you. What a great day.

    1. Nancy said the same thing Ms. Sandie. We wondered who was so thoughtful. Nancy thought maybe it might be some of Rich's friends (we used to call it the dog club) who met at the center early every morning. When he didn't show up for a while, they found a way to find us and told us how much they enjoyed his humor.

I try to keep my nose out of the dirt but it just tastes so good!

    1. Thank you Ms. Carolyn. Thank you for stopping by. It's a pretty place considering it's so close to a busy street. Feel like we're in the west!

  4. Lovely photos.

Here is what I would tell Ms. Nancy...I am going to be 13; I can eat whatever I want!

    1. Ms. Marsha, I'm only allowed to have home made sweet potatoes for treats, do you want Nancy to stop making them? I get away with more back talk than Nancy's human kids do, but that would be pushing the envelope. I might try it, though. :)

  5. What a great day you both had. How wonderful that someone fixed the bench. Now I can see why you love the nature center how beautiful.

Fred had to get scolded this morning too for eating something he found in the dirt. Nasty stuff I'm sure.
You boys need to listen to us about eating nasty stuff. We love you and don't want you to get sick.

    1. Ms. Jo, Nancy asked me to ask you if you think it could be grubs that Fred and I like? And, Fred, did you see what Ms Marsha said to say. You go first and tell me how you made out. Thanks, Buddy.

  6. What a nice walk you had with Nancy, Jack. And you're looking GOOD!!! You and Jewel should walk together. She likes to go to the lake and there are lots of geese there. We tell her not to eat the goose poop but every so often, she can't help herself. She just finds some really yummy stuff and snaps it up before we can stop her. Wonder if it tastes as good as dirt?

    1. This dirt is very dark, Ms. Donna. Do you suppose...well, maybe it is!!! It sure does taste good. Wish I could walk with Jewel and talk it over with her.
