For those of you interested Only in TRAVEL, I (Jack) wrote the blog between MARCH 2010 and October 2010 during our travels west. We saw the most beautiful places and had the best time in our big truck and little trailer. See Blog Archive below.

All Dressed Up With No Place to Go

Beautiful day. New Car. And no where to go.

I dream of days past when Rich and I, even if we weren't going camping, would get in the car on a weekend, with or without Lizzie and Jack, and ride and talk and laugh. Sometimes, it was just to go to the foot hills, find a place to let the pups swim or take a short hike. Many times, it was just up to Dahlonega where our son, John, just bought his new home (coincidence). Rich was always so much fun to be with. I miss his laughter, of course, but I miss my laughter with him, more.

I never thought about not being able to walk. If Rich were here, we'd be taking a ride, anyway, and laughing, too. Maybe stop and get an ice cream cone--his favorite thing to do. Not much fun without him.

When we were kids, there was a lady who lived next door to us who we called Aunt Alice. In my eyes, Aunt Alice was a very, very old lady. She was probably younger than I am, today. LOL I always remember her shaking her crooked finger and saying, "Young lady, the secret to never getting old is to keep moving." I think she was a very wise lady, and she did live well into my adulthood. I passed her advice on to my kids.

I wanted to post some pictures of Jonah just so I'd remember how grown up he has gotten so quickly. I think he just turned 8 months old. Susan was lucky to get him. He's got a wonderful personality and temperament. Between him and Bogey, I'm kept busy going between our houses. Susan lives a mile away so it's no big deal. It would have been difficult for her to own a dog with the hours she works and as active as she is, they have a great time on the weekends. The first picture has a funny story. She takes him to a park somewhere every weekend and he meets up with his brother and some other dogs. They got there early and he's looking as if to say, "Hey, where is everyone." He looks like a Meer Cat! Too funny. When he and his brother, Remy, saw each other for the first time since they were with their Mother (I'm guessing at about 6 months old), they seemed to recognize each other and have become fast friends. Susan and his owners have also become friends and will help each other out, as needed. They are a young couple and feel safe leaving Remy with her (and me) when they go away on a weekend.

The pictures with the black background are taken by Steven Moore (http://thebreedproject.com/). Susan and Remy's owners took Jonah and Remy. Sure wish I had some of Lizzie and Jack. I'll see if Michael is interested in getting some of
"The Bogster".

Looks scary to me, but they have a blast together and never hurt each other. (Remy and Jonah)

My buddy, Bogey, is a couch potato (along with me) in this hot weather. He's a cool dog.
I think Michael gets him a new collar every time he has him.

  1. How can you not be in love with those pups. They are adorable. I can't imagine what my life would be without Jim. So very lonely I'm sure. And I depend on him for so much. I wish you still had your very special Rich with you. He and skim would love to stop for ice cream.

    1. Well, hi! I didn't think the blog was visible any more so I was just rambling on. I'm so excited that you and Jim are coming east in October. My son, John, (NASCAR) just moved up to a cute little town called Dahlonega--there was a gold rush. He'd love for us to take a ride to see him--he said to tell you all pups are welcome!

    2. Well, I for one am glad your blog is visible. You are not whining. You are expressing what a lot of us will face and feel. This is life and I thank you for sharing yours with us. Would love to drive up to meet John. The only day we have anything planned is on Saturday when Jim drives. We leave on Tuesday. So that leaves Sunday and Monday.

    3. Lisa still works, but if they are there on Sunday that would be great or we can run up on Monday to see John. Jim, tell him when to stop in his "Nascar" room. LOL

  2. You still have Memories which will always put a smile on your face. Rich looks like he was a wonderful person. I remember how out of place I felt when my Late Wife passed. I thank God every day for bringing Kathy in to share life with me.
By the looks on their faces those dogs will definitely keep you busy.
    Br Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  3. Thanks, Rick. I'm glad you and Kathy found each other, too. I really didn't mean to whine. You are right. "Out of place" is a good way to describe my life without Rich, and lonely. However, I try to remind myself that I have a lot of wonderful people in my life. Even internet friends like you mean a lot.

Yes, the dogs do keep me busy. I don't know what weekdays would be without them. The weekends sure do drag. Thanks for writing, and thank you, always, for your encouragement. I thought I had changed my blog to private and was only going to turn it on when I traveled so everyone wouldn't have to read my snivelling.(sp?)

  4. That Jonah is a handsome fellow and quite a lap full. Good pictures of Bogey too. I actually think you are very lucky not to have the complete responsibility and costs of owning a dog. It’s like being a grand parent. You can have fun with them and then they go home. AND, I don’t think you are sniveling at all but I sure wish you had a senior friend to head out for ice cream with. There are so many lonely people. There must be a way to help them find each other. I guess Senior Centers are one way. Thanks for your comments. It always makes me smile to see you there. You were one of the first people to comment on my blog 8 years ago. So thanks for then and thanks for now.

    1. Thank you, Sherry. When I was camping I was in a group of women who camped and made many wonderful friendships all around the country. When my back went south, I had to drop out. I miss camping with these ladies, but stay in touch through email or phone with some of them, but many are all far afield from where I live; others are still camping. I miss them. The dogs take up my weekdays, now, and I love them but there's nothing like good friendships.

Now that I'm back on the computer, again, I'm glad to be reading blogs. I've gotten so behind, but I'm making an effort to catch up. I always enjoy "my walks" with you. I have a friend who is like you. She spots everything on a walk. You would love her.
