For those of you interested Only in TRAVEL, I (Jack) wrote the blog between MARCH 2010 and October 2010 during our travels west. We saw the most beautiful places and had the best time in our big truck and little trailer. See Blog Archive below.

The Jeff Couch Salesman Just Called and Was Irate

He was foaming at the mouth as he shouted, called me names, asked me what was wrong with me and tried to intimidate me. Forest River had contacted him about my blog so I guess he caught some heat when it should have been the service department. "Do you think Forest River is going to pay you for any warranty work that was done, now? Do you think I will ever help you, again?" he screamed.

I have always been reasonable in my communication with the dealer and the Hensley Hitch people. I couldn't get the owner, Jeff Couch, to call me back, but the salesman had always been civil. I'm very surprised that he didn't consult with the service department before calling me and acting like a complete moron.

The roof was the straw that broke my back. I guess my blog was the straw that broke his.  More proof of what kind of organization Jeff Couch RV Nation is. I'm glad they are in my rear view window.

  1. Unbelievable. I hope he loses his job over this.

  3. To be fair, he was always courteous and helpful, and I have said as much in past posts. The installation of the hitch was performed by the service department--had nothing to do with sales. Part of his tongue lashing was because I didn't go to him about the chain issue the day I picked the trailer up, but I solved the issue with the young man who managed to get the extra links so I could hitch the chains and the brakes. He was not present.

That's why the salesman took me by such surprise without ever having read my blog. I could not believe how nasty and threatening he was. He claims they had no left over parts after the hitch installation. I don't know how he knows that, but in reading over the installation manual, I would think if they were following the installation directions, they would have known that bolts, etc. were missing.

In any case, there was no need for the intimidating call and threats. Forest River may pay more attention to quality control, now (slide and roof). At least that's what I hope. The salesman forgets that I paid $500. of my own money just to try and get the hitch fixed so I could get the slide fixed. I submitted warranty docs to him for $250.00 for the mobile RV guy who secured the slide so I could drive and the dealer, here, is submitting the warranty docs for the roof. The salesman was my only contact with service with the exception of a woman in the service department who he got hold of for me when I discovered they had forgotten to include the power hose. They sent it to my home. He chose to make a jerk out of himself when there was no need. I had no ill-will toward him. It's Forest River Manufacturing who is responsible for the slide and roof issues.

    1. It was Jeff Couch who refused to return my calls, and trying to reach the service department at any other time was futile. Hensley, though always polite, touts its buy back program. It's a joke, and they know it. By the time they this hitch is sold, again, they will probably have made close to 5K (that's my estimate).

  4. If mister Couch calls back with an attitude like that again tell him you consider that a threat and you will be calling the authorities. Besides if he didn't want to return your calls before than he shouldn't be calling you now. If he plans on saving his dealership he should be hiring competent service personal.

    It's about time.

    1. It was NOT the owner, Mr. Couch, Rick. It was the salesman who called which was what shocked me in as much as I didn't say anything about him (except praise when I first bought my trailer). I was really surprised by the phone call and his ranting--totally uncalled for and very disappointing. I've never spoken to Mr. Couch--he never answered my calls. As I said, through all that happened, it was the roof that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

  5. Oh my goodness is there no end to this horrible dealer. His threats and name calling can now be used against him big time. He better honor that warranty or he can be in more trouble than he knows.

    1. I think he was just so angry that threatening me was his way of trying to make me take my post down. No reason, too. I told the truth, and all I wanted was to be treated fairly. Any more threats, and I'll look into making some posts on the Escapee forum and IRV2.
